another week... FOUR more hats!

Yep, still knitting away!

I continued my knitting by knitting a slouchy hat for my niece:
Christmas knit #3 - done!
I used some more of my overdyed yarn. It still needs to be blocked, but from what I hear, she really likes hats so it should be a hit, esp in her favorite colors!
(details on my Ravelry project page)

Then I knit up a hat for my middle nephew:

My friend wanted a hat for a friend's baby shower, so I knit this quick one up:
It was an owl pattern, but after getting the eyes and tassels on, I think it looks more like a monster so I skipped adding the beak.

Then back to Christmas knitting with a hat for my brother-in-law:
I figured I should go as basic as possible for his or he wouldn't wear it.

I can see the end in sight! Only two more nephews to go and the family is done. =) I'm planning a cowl for my mother and that's the last one that needs to be mailed. I'd originally knit a hat for my friend and was planning ones for her family, but was informed yesterday that none of them wear hats... So, the hat for her is going to my sister. I might end up making her a cowl and possibly a headband or something for her daughter. I'll have to figure out something else for the guys. I'm truly at the point that I don't ever want to go to another store though! It's online shopping all the way from here.

I did have to go back to Jo Ann's for thread for a sewing project and since I had a few 60% off coupons, I finally picked up needle felting supplies:

=) The little packages of roving are way too expensive, but with the coupon, now SO bad. I have some roving I picked up at a wool fest but it's all in storage. This will work for now.

And now... back to knitting!

First position, second position

Yes, it's that time of year again. Time for the kiddos to show off what they've learned this year.

I happened to be home the weekend of her debut last year, so it was even nicer to get to see this year's show! For those who cannot spot her in the mass of little girls, Angela is the one in the back (to the right of the leader once they line up) with the mass of dark curls and giggling her way through the dance. =)

All too soon, I have another nephew graduating as well! It remains to be seen if I'll be home for that weekend or not. Things are still really slow with work, but they're promising work will be picking up soon and I'm guessing we'll all be back on the road by then (June). My nephew who graduated last year has since gone through boot camp for the Air Force in TX and is now in CA for training. Sadly, this training has nothing to do with cooking - what my nephew has planned as his career for at least half a dozen years. All in due time...

I do have photos to share fom my mini-trip to Cincinnati too... first, I have to do some editing and uploading. heh

The hunt...

Last year, I missed the egg hunt with my niece and nephews because I was on a plane to Arizona. Not so, this year!

Along the way, some found out we don't always get what we want.

She's so dramatic. But all ended well. =)

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

Moving Forward

I've had great timing for my weekends home lately. The last weekend I was home, my niece had her first dance recital so I got to go to that. This time, my oldest nephew, Joe, graduated from high school. =)
I will miss his reception next weekend though. That's him with his little bro, Calvin, who graduates next year. Unfortunately, some of Joe's plans have been altered. He was all set to go into the Air Force mid-June. Two days before graduation, he was out with his friends and went to jump out of the back of a truck, caught his foot and landed on his arm. Broken. Had surgery the day before graduation to have plates and pins put in. Docs say 3 months before he's back to normal. Apparently, the AF won't accept anyone with hardware installed, but he may still be okay since he was already signed up. I'm hoping this delay will get him into a job a little closer to what he ultimately wants to do. Time will tell.

Glad I got home this weekend, but I gotta say, this whole flying on every freaking holiday is getting old. I think Christmas and New Year's have been the only holidays I've not spent on a plane since I started this job last June. I'm beginning to think they're doing it on purpose... Wish I was actually getting holiday pay though. =(

Angela's Debut

My weekend home happened to coincide with my niece's first dance recital:

She's 4 1/2 and obviously had a ball. Unfortunately, I'll miss my nephew's high school graduation... by a day. I fly back from Arizona the day he graduates, but won't get back until several hours too late.

BTW - LOVING the new tiny digital camera! I've played around with still shots indoors and out and then tried out the video feature today. I shot this video with it today in a dark auditorium with just the stage lighting. Turned out very well! (The quality is better on flickr.) I am pleased. =) Totally worth every penny... all none of them. =D
